The research objectives focused on:

  • understanding the drivers of waste and recycling behaviours
  • measuring awareness and knowledge about how to recycle correctly and which bins to use for different materials
  • which terms are most used and best understood for a range of waste materials
  • which messages and media are most likely to change waste and recycling behaviour

The research looked at the whole population, as well as a focus on different sub groups of interest these included young people (aged 18-24), culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) audiences, people living in multi-unit dwellings and those who have council-provided food and garden organics collections.
