Most-littered items

The chart below shows the top 10 litter item types recorded by the KLIS in 2024–25, by volume.

Water bottles under one litre, other food packages (e.g. soy fish bottles) and take away are the top 3 most-littered item types, accounting for 31% of all litter volume.

The top 10 individual items account for 57% of all litter by volume.

Litter by category

The chart below shows the litter categories recorded by the KLIS in 2024–25 by volume.

Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) drink containers, takeaway and beverage and personal effects, care and hygiene categories account for almost 78% of all litter by volume.

Litter by material

The chart below shows the material composition of the litter recorded by the KLIS in 2024–25 by volume. Almost 67% of the litter was plastic, which is comparable to the previous 2 years. The next-largest category was metal (15%), followed by paper and cardboard (9%).
