Agricultural Chemicals Clean-up Project

We have partnered with ChemClear to help farmers, primary producers and agribusinesses safely dispose of Group 2 agricultural and veterinary (AgVet) chemicals that have been damaged, displaced or abandoned as a result of severe weather events that occurred on the NSW East Coast in May 2025 (AGRN 1212).

Please see the NSW Reconstruction Authority's webpage Natural disaster declarations from financial year 2024–25 for more information.

This project is funded through the joint Commonwealth and State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

ChemClear is a national stewardship program operated by Agsafe that collects and safely disposes of unwanted, expired and obsolete agricultural and veterinary chemicals. ChemClear classifies chemicals into 2 categories:

  • Group 1 chemicals are currently registered AgVet products manufactured by participating manufacturers. These chemicals are collected free of charge through the existing ChemClear program.
  • Group 2 chemicals include legacy, orphaned and unidentified chemicals that fall outside the stewardship scheme and would normally incur a disposal fee.

Under this project, funding is available for the collection and disposal of Group 2 chemicals. Group 1 chemicals will continue to be collected through ChemClear's existing free collection program.

Agricultural chemicals and chemical containers can pose significant risks to the community and the environment. They may contain concentrated active ingredients and require collection and disposal at an approved facility to ensure they are managed safely.

This assistance is available to eligible landholders located in disaster-declared Local Government Areas (LGAs) under AGRN 1212 across the Mid North Coast, Hunter and New England regions.
