Maintenance of the gauging network
Hunter River Salinity Trading Scheme Performance Report 2024–25.
WaterNSW conducts maintenance of the network on an ongoing basis. When gauges at key sites (Denman, U/S Glennies Creek and Singleton) are down, backup gauges are available to continue monitoring the river. When gauges at sites with no backup are offline, WaterNSW extrapolates data using the water model to monitor and forecast flows.
Data measured and transmitted via the gauging network was reliable, accurate and readily available to be used for the modelling purposes in the 2024-2025 financial year with one exception: During the major flooding event in May 2025, several flow and electrical conductivity (EC) sensors were lost in the lower sector. Temporary sensors were promptly installed by WaterNSW, once the sites became safely accessible.
