Radiation management licence - renewals and variations
Renewal of management licence
A radiation management licence (to sell, possess, store, give away, consign for transport or dispose) is issued for one year.
The management licence must be renewed by the renewal date.
There is a 60-day grace period during which a management licence may be renewed after the expiry date. While a radiation management licence does not automatically lapse, as it has a renewal date, failure to renew by that date (or within the 60-day grace period) will cause it to expire. If the person responsible requires a management licence they must lodge a new application (with the additional application fee).
A valid management licence is required to sell, possess, store, give away, consign for transport or dispose of regulated material. Failure to hold the required management licence is a serious offence under the Protection from Harmful Radiation Act 1990.
Variation of management licence
A variation to a management licence may include adding or removing regulated material.
There are no fees associated with applying to vary a management licence.
An application to vary a management licence must be made using eConnect EPA. An application to vary a licence will be assessed against the relevant criteria and a decision made to either grant or refuse the request.
Variations of the following kind must also be made using eConnect EPA:
- change of address
- changing contact details.
When a licence is varied a revised management licence document is sent to the management licence holder. When adding new items to an existing licence, the items may be used while your application to add the items is being processed. Your application must be lodged within 7 days of receipt or transfer occurring.
If have questions about licence variations, please contact the EPA's Regulatory and Compliance Support Unit on (02) 9995 5959 for clarification.
