Onshore gas industry
The EPA is the lead regulator responsible for compliance and enforcement of all conditions of approval for onshore gas activities in NSW, except for work health and safety matters.
Pesticides
Pesticides are substances used to manage or eliminate pests. As some pesticides can threaten human health and the environment, the EPA controls their use in NSW and provides advice for people working with pesticides.
Plastics
Plastic packaging and single-use plastic items make up 60% of all litter in NSW. These items take thousands of years to decompose and in the process they are causing great harm to our natural environment and wildlife. The NSW Government has banned several problematic and unnecessary single-use plastic items and is now taking further action to reduce plastic in landfill and the environment.

Recycling and reuse
Not everything needs to go to landfill – there are many ways we can reuse and recycle. The EPA leads efforts in NSW to increase recycling, by people, businesses, and governments. Learn about our programs and have your say on our plans.
Waste
Most activities generate waste, some of which is hazardous. The EPA manages the transport and disposal of hazardous waste, and works with industry to find sustainable solutions to minimise the amount of waste going to landfill.
