NOx emission reduction and licence variation from 1 January 2022
In December 2021 the EPA granted AGL Pty Limited a licence variation for reduced emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) from the Liddell Power Station. The variation supports continued operation of the plant through to its planned decommissioning in April 2023.
It is not feasible to install additional pollution controls ahead of the operational closure of Liddell Power Station in April 2023. The variation is not predicted to result in any increased emissions or impact on local or regional air quality. Modelling predicts that the licence variation will not result in any increased emissions or impact on local or regional air quality. In addition, the permanent shutdown of one unit in April 2022 will result in around a 25% reduction in NOx emissions from the facility.
The variation supports continued operation of the plant through to its planned decommissioning in April 2023.
