University of New England

Through a series of podcast episodes, The University of New England raised awareness on the Single Use plastics bans while covering other environmental issues.

Talking plastic, creating change

The EPA partnered with the University of New England to deliver an educational podcast series, Plastic: The Last Straw. This used an innovating storytelling approach and drew on the university’s network of researchers and innovators to drive home the importance of shifting society away from a reliance on harmful plastics. The podcast series successfully raised awareness of the bans, but also of the spread of plastics and its impact across the entire planet.

Each episode is themed around a core topic, from the environment to human health, which the narrator explores by interweaving the first-hand accounts from expert speakers with current research and statistics. Episode topics range from entering the plastic age, understanding the impact of microplastics on our bodies and the tangible actions that individuals can take to live a more sustainable life.
