Reducing cogeneration and trigeneration emissions
Gas-fired cogeneration and trigeneration are greenhouse-friendly ways of generating electricity using fossil fuels because they waste little energy. Even so, they can emit significant amounts of oxides of nitrogen (NOx). We published a policy describing best available techniques for minimising emissions and has set limits reflecting these practices.

Pesticide education and monitoring campaigns and investigations
To ensure pesticides are used safely and effectively, we run campaigns focussed on educating people about the correct use of pesticides. We also investigate allegations of pesticide misuse and determine if further compliance and enforcement action is needed.

Rozelle Parklands EPA investigation
The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is continuing its investigation into the discovery of bonded asbestos in mulch at the Rozelle Parklands and has issued a draft Clean Up Notice to Transport for NSW to formalise the removal of all contaminated mulch from the site.

Managing odour
Bad smells are a large cause of complaints to our Environment Line and generate a lot of ill will in the community. We work with industry on ways to prevent odour and issues heavy fines and penalties when odour becomes an issue.

Flat Rock Creek fish kill
The NSW EPA, with the help of Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) scientists, has been sampling and monitoring Flat Rock Creek since the pollution incident in December 2022.
