    Welcome to the Autumn 2019 edition of the EPA Connect newsletter. In this issue we report on the EPA Board’s recent visit to Broken Hill, we introduce the 20-year Waste Strategy and take a closer look at many initiatives and achievements in environment protection over the recent months.

    2. Schools wage their own “war on waste”

      Many NSW schools include environmental initiatives as part of their learning inside and outside of the classroom. Hennessy College in Young has joined in on the action looking at how they can integrate Return and Earn. We also look at Take Me Outside NSW, a new program for teachers and the community. Read more

    3. A long-term vision for waste management in NSW

      The EPA is leading the development of a 20-year waste and resource recovery strategy for NSW. From the outset, the strategy will be co-designed with vital input from stakeholders and the community. Read more

    4. Environmental offenders held accountable

      The EPA continues its rigorous investigations into environmental crime with a serious illegal dumping offence dealt with in December 2018, while in one week in March, over $260,000 in fines were recorded. Read more

    5. Bin Trim leads the way to engage business in recycling

      The NSW EPA has developed and continues to lead the largest business recycling program in Australia with Bin Trim, with 24,000 businesses engaged in the program since its inception in 2014. Read more

      Innovative oil fingerprinting techniques and great teamwork were crucial in pinpointing the alleged polluter of Pambula Lake from a diesel spill late last year. Read more

    9. Special EPA unit co-ordinates rapid response

      The EPA’s Incident and Emergency Coordination Unit was established to effectively manage environmental incidents around NSW with a rapid response team and improved scientific sampling. Read more
