    Welcome to the final edition of the EPA Connect Newsletter for 2017. It has yet again been another busy quarter for the NSW EPA, with the rollout of the NSW Government’s Return and Earn container deposit scheme collecting close to 5 million containers in its first week, and the EPA continuing to provide advice to residents affected by PFAS chemical contamination from the RAAF Base Williamtown.

    3. Williamtown update

      On Sunday 19 November, the EPA released long-term, precautionary advice for residents affected by the RAAF Base Williamtown chemical contamination following advice from the NSW PFAS Expert Panel, led by NSW Chief Scientist and Engineer Professor Mary O’Kane. Read more

    5. Don't dump on charities this Christmas

      Think twice before donating unwanted gifts, clothing or household items to charities this Christmas. That’s the key message the NSW EPA and the National Association of Charitable Recycling Organisations (NACRO) want to get across as part of a new anti-dumping campaign. Read more

    6. The drill on clean dirt and landscaping fill this summer

      The NSW EPA has launched a Gumtree community awareness campaign in response to increasing reports from unsuspecting tradespeople, gardeners and renovators receiving delivery of contaminated fill - soil excavated from one site and used as a base material in building, landscaping or general fill at another site.     9. Stakeholder profile: BehaviourWorks Australia

      The EPA has partnered with BehaviourWorks Australia to understand behaviour change. Australians throw away $5.2 billion of food per year, equating to about $239 per person. In NSW alone, we throw away 800,000 tonnes of edible food each year. That’s nearly $4000 worth of food per household. Read more
