    The EPA engaged with 500 council staff and licensees in our Roadshow forums, listening and responding as we move closer to becoming a world class regulator. In this edition we flag the NSW Government’s visionary waste strategy and our imminent new Regulatory Strategy – as well as news of environmental action across the state.

    2. Waste strategy and Plastics Plan released

      The NSW Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy 2041 Stage 1: 2021 – 2027, and the NSW Plastics Action Plan have been released by NSW Premier Berejiklian and Environment Minister Kean. Read more

    5. Severe weather? Be prepared.

      La Nina continued its weather pattern into the autumn months and the Bureau of Meteorology’s warning for severe weather activity was realised through the March floods in many parts of NSW. Read more

    6. Mouse outbreak! Pesticide warning.

      Use of agricultural/commercial grade mouse bait in homes during the ongoing mouse outbreak in rural NSW has led to human poisoning and hospitalisations in some communities. Read more

      Our Roadshows at the start of this year provided an opportunity for our CEO and Executive to meet face to face with stakeholders, listen to their concerns and discuss local environmental matters. We held our first Roadshows in February and March and will be hosting our next round later this year. Read more

    8. Snowy 2.0 for a safe and sustainable environment

      As the state’s environmental regulator, we play a major role in the management of many major infrastructure projects. Snowy 2.0 pumped Hydro scheme is a significant development that the EPA has an integral interest in – for both environmental protection and the project’s future as a major source of renewable energy.     9. The EPA nose knows on odour issues

      In Autumn, specific weather patterns, particularly in Sydney, often mean that smelly odours generated by industry are trapped close to ground and a lack of wind means that many communities suffer from these smells. Read more
