Total credits |
1,000 |
- The table shows only the initial credit holders in the scheme and credit holders may vary over time. To find out details of current credit holders, visit the online credit register.
- Although some of the participants referred to above were not initially issued with credits, they have been able to participate in trading.
- Some credits were initially kept by the EPA as a transitional mechanism. All residual credits were allocated during 2003, so all 1000 credits are held by participants.
Administrative roles
WaterNSW are the Service Co-ordinator for the Hunter River Salinity Trading Scheme (the scheme) and operates a real-time water monitoring system in the Hunter River Catchment, conducts river flow modelling and operates a River Register. Data collected and the modelling of river flows is then used to determine the amount of salt that can be lawfully discharged to the Hunter River during high river flows.
WaterNSW’s River Register is maintained on a dedicated website and is used to notify participants of the scheme when they can discharge, the amount of salt that can be discharged, and the start and end times for each authorised discharge.
The Hunter River Register is available on the WaterNSW site.Scheme management
The Hunter River Salinity Trading Scheme Operations Committee considers issues in relation to the day-to-day operation of the scheme.
The cost of administering the scheme is shared equally between credit holders and discharge licence holders. People other than licensees are also able to hold credits.
Reporting
Scheme participants must provide an annual record of saline water discharges (DOCX 39KB) under the scheme to the EPA.
