- an Act is assented to when the Governor gives formal assent to a Bill passed by Parliament. Upon assent, the Bill becomes an Act (for further information about the legislative process, see the NSW Parliament website). Acts do not necessarily commence operation on their assent date.
- a draft form of a proposed Act introduced into Parliament. A NSW Bill becomes an Act when it is passed by both Houses of the NSW Parliament and is assented to by the Governor.
- a Regulation is gazetted when it is published in the NSW Government Gazette.
