The EPA Annual Report 2012–13 has now been tabled in Parliament. This is the first standalone annual report for the NSW EPA as an independent authority. The report includes information on the EPA’s operations and its performance in 2012–13 under the EPA Strategic Plan 2012–15.
In this report, the EPA Board also included a regulatory assurance statement for submission to the Minister for the Environment to satisfy the requirements under section 16(3) of the Protection of the Environment Administration Act 1991 for 2012–13. This statement provides an assessment of:
the EPA’s success in reducing risks to human health and preventing the degradation of the environment
industries’ performance in reducing risks to human health and preventing degradation of the environment
whether the level of environment protection achieved by the EPA is satisfactory compared with other Australian jurisdictions.
In 2012–13, the EPA had many significant achievements reducing environmental impacts and improving environmental outcomes as well as contributing to improved planning decisions throughout NSW. The EPA has also strengthened its stakeholder engagement and governance since its establishment, and continues to enhance its relationship with stakeholders and improve its overall communication.
The EPA’s activities, performance and finances for the 2011-12 financial year are reported in the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s Annual Report 2011–12. The EPA Board’s first annual regulatory assurance statement was also included in this report. (The EPA was part of the Department of Premier and Cabinet during the 2011-12 reporting period.)
