Sites being investigated for asbestos in mulch and results

Our investigation into the supply chain has identified sites that may have received potentially contaminated mulch. These sites have been inspected by a licensed asbestos assessor and samples collected for analysis.

As of 6pm, 20 March, the following results have been returned:

Our priority is to ensure sites are safe for their intended use. The action required at sites where asbestos in mulch has been discovered varies depending on their use and public access.

Residential properties

We are investigating a small number of residential properties that have been identified as a recipient of potentially contaminated mulch.

If a residential property is tested by the EPA and returns a positive result for asbestos

We will assist by providing a licensed asbestos assessor to undertake a site assessment. EPA officers will be in contact with affected properties with more details and to schedule the site visit and remediation works.

If a residential property is tested by the EPA and returns a negative result for asbestos

EPA officers will be in contact to advise properties of their test results.
