Everyone has a role to play in the NSW Government’s container deposit scheme, Return and Earn, which will contribute to the Premier’s Priority of reducing litter by 40% by 2020.

The NSW Government has hosted a number of stakeholder forums and public consultations to date, to ensure that feedback from industry and community groups affected by the introduction of Return and Earn has been considered.

If you would like to receive regular updates about Return and Earn, sign up for the CDS stakeholder newsletter by emailing: container.deposit@epa.nsw.gov.au.

Price monitoring

The NSW Government has commissioned IPART (Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal) to report on the effect the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) is having on the price of beverages supplied in a container.

The request has been made to monitor prices and to identify instances of suppliers and retailers raising prices over and above the costs associated with the Scheme.

Consumers and other stakeholders can report their experiences in relation to changes in beverage prices to IPART. This information will be considered in IPART’s reports to the Government over the next 12 months.

Please do not contact IPART with other comments about the Container Deposit Scheme. Contact the EPA on container.deposit@epa.nsw.gov.au
