Assessing former orchards and market gardens

As a leading protector of human health and the environment, the EPA has developed this guidance for assessing the potential for contamination on land that has been used as an orchard or market garden, before it can be redeveloped for residential or other sensitive purposes.

Chemical use at orchards or market gardens may include the widespread use of pesticides. There may also be localised chemical leaks or waste disposal that make land unsuitable for residential or other sensitive purposes, unless remediated.
