NSW Road Noise Policy

The Road Noise Policy aims to identify the strategies that address the issue of road traffic noise from: existing roads; new road projects; road redevelopment projects and new traffic-generating developments. The Road Noise Policy also defines criteria to be used in assessing the impact of such noise.

The state’s road system contributes to the economic and social wellbeing of the people of NSW. At the same time, road traffic noise can have a significant impact on the community. 

A balance, therefore, needs to be reached between providing efficient road transport infrastructure and minimising the adverse environmental effects of road use.
