    Protecting giant trees in Doubleduke State Forest

    EPA officers measure a tree for compliance in a State ForestThe EPA has acted on community concerns about giant trees in Doubleduke State Forest on Bundjalung Country near Grafton, leading the Forestry Corporation of NSW (FCNSW) to voluntarily suspend tree harvesting there. Read more

    Untreated sewage in Parramatta River costs Sydney Water

    Sydney Water has agreed to pay $347,100 for environmental and community works after more than three million litres of untreated sewage overflowed into Arnotts Reserve and Powells Creek in Homebush, as well as the Parramatta River.

    The discharge was followed by a significant fish kill in Powells Creek, and Arnotts Reserve was closed to the public during clean-up for several weeks after the incident. Read more 

    Snowy Hydro and contractor fined $30,000

    The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is reminding operators based within or around National Parks to ensure robust controls are in place to protect the environment or prepare to face serious regulatory action.

    The warning comes after Snowy Hydro Limited and their contractor WeBuild were each issued with a $15,000 penalty notice by the EPA following two alleged pollution incidents in the Kosciuszko National Park. Read more

    Cootamundra company fined for excess tyre storage

    A Cootamundra tyre processing facility was fined $15,000 for allegedly stockpiling more than five times the amount of waste tyres it is licensed to store.

    The Commonwealth Steel Company, trading as Molycop 360, was penalised by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) after officers found 340 tonnes of tyres on site in May last year despite its licence only permitting up to 50 tonnes. Read more
