Sorting your rubbish helps protect the environment

Residents, councils and businesses are committed recyclers in NSW, it’s something everyone can do to protect the environment.

If you are sorting your rubbish into the correct bin, the vast majority will be recovered, recycled or re-manufactured in NSW and Australia and it’s important to note that only a very small percentage (7%) of our waste in NSW is transported overseas for recycling.

The NSW EPA is leading the development of a 20-year Waste Strategy for NSW to reduce  waste, drive sustainable recycling markets and identify and improve waste infrastructure.

The NSW Government is committed to protecting the State’s strong history of recycling and is working with local councils and industry to respond to challenges.
