Public native forestry

Native forestry on public land is mostly in state forests, and includes timber harvesting and thinning, constructing access roads, burning, grazing, and other activities. The Forestry Corporation of NSW manages these operations, and we regulate them.

We are responsible for regulating native forestry operations on public (Crown) land as well as native forestry operations on private land in NSW.

Forestry operations on Crown land are managed by the Forestry Corporation of NSW (FCNSW).

The terms and conditions of all forestry operations, including logging, are set out in Integrated Forestry Operations Approvals, and apply to anyone carrying out forestry operations in state forests and on other Crown-timber land.

We are responsible for monitoring FCNSW’s compliance with IFOA conditions, including by maintaining and enforcing a compliance program.
