Supply Chain Management
To reduce risk and cost and get the best environmental results from products and services, firms are working cooperatively with other businesses and customers along their supply chain.
Supply Chain Management helps Sustainability Advantage partners build the business case for working with their key suppliers and customers - finding solutions, minimising risks and seizing opportunities. Businesses may focus on developing a clear procurement policy or look to work with suppliers to raise their environmental awareness.
Operations and procurement managers evaluate how they can best engage with suppliers and customers; for example, through setting supplier standards and product specifications, or through supplier education programs. A structured opportunity and risk assessment reveals a supply chain engagement plan designed to deliver the most business value. Follow up workshops target specific areas - such as contractual specifications - to help implement the chosen supply chain actions.
While results depend on a company's own efforts, Sustainability Advantage supports its partners with:
- practical workshops;
- checklists for supplier selection and product evaluation;
- sample policies, strategies and environmental tender clauses;
- reviews of their existing supply chain program;
- and specialist expertise to guide implementation.
Partners also work in a cluster of like-minded companies that offer mutual support, networking opportunities and specialist seminars. Partners' efforts towards sustainability are promoted through the Sustainability Advantage recognition program.
