Climate Change

Climate Change is one of the most significant global challenges facing us today. With Australia's ratification of the Kyoto Protocol and the establishment of a National Emissions Trading Scheme, preparing your business for the significant changes ahead will be critical to the sustainability of your business into the future.

Companies that understand their carbon footprint and the risks and opportunities of climate change can gain a significant competitive advantage.

The Climate Change module helps organisations measure their carbon footprint, analyse risks from climate change as well as the opportunities, and identify ways to reduce their Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.

With the support of DECC and our contractors, partners first develop their GHG inventory - a quantified list of GHG emissions and sources. Depending on their priorities, partners can focus on areas that include:

  • Minimising GHG footprint
  • Climate change risk management
  • Realising business opportunities from climate change.

A second session helps participants to scope and begin preparation of their Climate Change Strategy.

Following completion of the Climate Change Strategy, DECC assists with its implementation, review and refinement over a period of 12-18 months.

While results depend on a company's own efforts, Sustainability Advantage assists its partners with:

  • practical workshops;
  • a comprehensive range of guides, case studies and templates;
  • phone and email advice;
  • feedback on company documents; and
  • one-on-one specialist support.

Partners also work in a cluster of like-minded companies that offer mutual support, networking opportunities and specialist seminars. Partners' efforts towards sustainability are promoted through the Sustainability Advantage recognition program.
