Introduction
This register is maintained by the New South Wales Environment Protection Authority (EPA) in accordance with the Road and Rail Transport (Dangerous Goods) Act 1997 and Regulations made under that Act:

The Act is part of uniform national legislation for the transport of dangerous goods by road and rail. and provides for the appointment of a 'Competent Authority' for its administration. In NSW, the EPA and WorkCover are each a Competent Authority. The EPA's role relates to on-road aspects of the transport of dangerous goods, while WorkCover regulates other aspects (such as classification, loading, unloading, labelling, placarding and packaging).
For the purposes of the uniform national legislation, each dangerous goods Competent Authority in Australia is required to have a public register and links will be made to these other registers as they are placed on the Internet.

What information is included?
Driver licences and vehicle licences
- driver licences and vehicle licences issued by the EPA under the Road and Rail Transport (Dangerous Goods) Act since April 1998
- driver licences and vehicle licences issued by the EPA under the Dangerous Goods Act from June 1993 until April 1998
- driver licences issued by WorkCover NSW under the Dangerous Goods Act until June 1993.
Determinations, exemptions and approvals
- determinations, exemptions and approvals issued by EPA under the Road and Rail Transport (Dangerous Goods) Act since April 1998
- approvals issued by EPA under the Dangerous Goods Act until April 1998
- approvals for dangerous goods transport issued by WorkCover NSW under the Dangerous Goods Act until June1993. (Approvals since July 1993, when the EPA assumed dangerous goods transport responsibilities, are contained in the EPA approvals register.)

What information is not included?
Determinations, exemptions, approvals, driver licences and vehicle licences issued by other dangerous goods Competent Authorities are not included in the registers. The mutual recognition provisions of the Act mean that there will be determinations, exemptions, approvals, bulk driver licences and bulk vehicle licences valid in NSW but not listed in this register.

Driver and vehicle licence information
There are two dangerous goods licences. One is for bulk dangerous goods vehicles and the other is for drivers of those vehicles. A bulk dangerous goods vehicle carries its load in bulk containers such as tanks or bins.
For dangerous goods other than flammable and toxic gases, a bulk container has a capacity exceeding 450 litres or has a net mass exceeding 400 kg. For flammable and toxic gases, a bulk container has a capacity exceeding 500 litres. Licensed vehicles include road tank vehicles, vehicles carrying portable tanks such as ISO freight container tanks, tip trucks carrying bulk solid dangerous goods such as sulfur and ammonium nitrate, and table top trucks carrying intermediate bulk containers (IBCs).
Vehicle licences. The following details are available: licensee's name, suburb, trading name, licence issue date, licence expiry date, vehicle details including registration number, vehicle type and dangerous goods carried, and licence conditions.
Driver licences. The following details are available: licensee's name, licence issue date, licence expiry date, date of birth and licence conditions.
Current licences only?
Details of all current and expired drivers licences issued by WorkCover and the EPA are available.
Details of all current and expired vehicle licences issued by the EPA since 1998 are available.
Determinations, exemptions and approvals
Determinations issued under the Road and Rail Transport (Dangerous Goods) (Road) Regulation 1998 and Road and Rail Transport (Dangerous Goods) (Rail) Regulation 1999 include:
- what may or may not be dangerous goods,
- what classification particular goods have,
- what goods are incompatible with dangerous goods,
- what goods are too dangerous to be transported, and
- what routes may or may not be used for the transport of dangerous goods.
Exemptions may be granted under section 32 of the Act from any provision of a Regulation where alternative procedures providing equivalent safety can be demonstrated.
Approvals issued under these Regulations include tank vehicle designs, routes for the transport of unodorised liquefied petroleum gas and training courses for bulk driver licences.
