Report to EPA from your mobile

Report pollution from motor vehicles and illegal dumping online and from your mobile phone with Report to EPA.

Report to EPA allows you to quickly and easily report pollution incidents you observe from any mobile device. You can report:

  • littering from vehicles
  • illegal dumping
  • smoky vehicles
  • noisy exhaust

Whether you're on the road, cycling or walking, Report to EPA is at your fingertips so you can report pollution while on the go. Simply record the vehicle details, tell us where and when you saw it, and we'll take care of the rest.

Safety first! It is unlawful for drivers to use a mobile phone to record this information unless the car is parked. Your health and safety are always more important than reporting motor vehicle pollution. If you are driving, ask a passenger to record the details. If recording the required details affects your concentration or driving, wait until next time to make a report. If pollution is coming from a vehicle, it is only a matter of time before it is observed and reported by another member of the public, the police or an authorised officer.

For littering from vehicles

Vehicle details are matched with a valid registration. If the report is deemed to be valid, the owner of the vehicle will be sent a penalty notice, imposing a fine.
Read frequently asked questions about reporting littering.

For smoky or noisy vehicles

Vehicle details are matched with a valid registration and the report is reviewed by an EPA compliance officer. If the report is determined to be valid, the owner of the vehicle will be sent an advisory letter.

For illegal dumping

Illegal dumping reports are forwarded to the relevant local council for appropriate action.

Why report motor vehicle pollution and illegal dumping?

The EPA is working to minimise community exposure to pollution from motor vehicles in NSW. Your reports will help ensure that vehicle owners are aware of the pollution they are causing, and understand and comply with the regulations surrounding motor vehicle pollution.

Reporting illegal dumping will help the EPA develop a comprehensive statewide database of illegal dumping incidents, so hot spots can be identified and strategies developed to help improve your local area.

Other types of reports will be included in future versions of Report to EPA.
