Private native forestry legislative framework

Page under review

On 25 August 2017, new legislative arrangements commenced for private native forestry. It should be noted that some references on the EPAs website and any publications may now be outdated. These documents will be progressively updated by the EPA to ensure current legislative arrangements are reflected. More detail about the changes are available.

Private native forestry (PNF) in NSW is regulated under Part 5C of the Forestry Act 2012.

In August 2016, the Government released the NSW Forest Industry Roadmap, setting out its vision and plan for ensuring the NSW forestry industry continues to support regional economies while maintaining key native forest values. The Roadmap outlines significant reforms to the regulation of native forestry in NSW including through the development of new modernised legislation to improve how native forestry is regulated on both public and private land and a review of the Private Native Forestry Code of Practice. More information about the Roadmap is available on the Crown Land website.
