Cadia pleads guilty in Land & Environment Court

Newcrest’s Cadia Holdings Pty Ltd plead guilty today (29 September) in the Land and Environment Court to a breach of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 in relation to its Cadia Gold Mine operation.

In court action commenced in August this year, the EPA alleged that in March 2022 the mine exceeded the standard of concentration for solid particles (total) as a result of operating surface exhaust fans attached to Ventilation Rise 8.

The EPA welcomes the guilty plea.

This matter is before the Court and a sentence hearing date has been set for 28 March 2024.

More detail about the EPA’s prosecution is available in our 21 August media release.
