Environmental Education in NSW, 2007-10

Learning for Sustainability 2007-10 (the Plan) is the NSW Government's second three-year plan for environmental education. Prepared by the Council on Environmental Education in consultation with a range of stakeholders, the Plan builds directly upon the Government's first plan, Learning for Sustainability 2002-05, by focusing on priority environmental issues, increasing the role of the non-government and industry sectors, and continual improvement of quality environmental education across the State.
All sectors of the NSW community are called on to play their part in building a learning society, one in which we are all informed and active contributors to creating a more sustainable future – at home, work, school and play.

The first NSW three-year environmental education plan

Learning for Sustainability 2002-05 was the first three-year environmental education plan for NSW. It aimed to build the capacity of the whole community to be engaged in making environmental improvements and living sustainably.
The plan was developed through wide consultation and involvement of the NSW environmental education community.
This process included an extensive review of environmental education, expert contributions from members of the NSW Council on Environmental Education and suggestions from stakeholders who participated in the consultation process for the Council working paper, Environmental education in NSW: Towards a three-year plan.
Reporting achievements
The NSW Council on Environmental Education recognises the importance of evaluating efforts to making the vision for Learning for Sustainability a reality.
An annual reporting process has been established to monitor environmental education activity that is occurring across NSW. Council encourages all stakeholders to report annually on their actions to achieve the current plan's outcomes, strategies and actions.
