About the diesel and marine emissions management strategy

To improve air quality and public health in NSW by reducing harmful emissions from non-road diesel and marine sources, the EPA has developed the Diesel and Marine Emissions Management Strategy.

The strategy

  • complements control measures already in place for emissions from on-road diesel vehicles
  • sets out actions to reduce emissions from non-road diesel equipment used at EPA-licensed premises such as coal mines, equipment used by government agencies or their contractors, diesel trains operating in NSW and containerised and bulk cargo and cruise shipping at NSW ports
  • responds to evidence of the increase in diesel and marine emissions in the absence of national standards for non-road diesel engines and fuel
  • explains the health impacts and associated community concern due to emissions from non-road diesel equipment and transport steadily increasing
